Observations at work this past week with motivation:
1). This certain manager takes time every morning to speak with each of his team members to see what they are needing, working on and what they are having difficulties in finishing.
2). He then ask what can he do to make their team win. He expounds on "If you win, we all win!"
3). He is concerned about his employees well being and comradery between the team.
4). The manager tackles the situation with the team and then enables them to do what is needed to finish the task at hand
5). He always has a smile and is passionate about what he does and stands up for his team and gives them a platform to be great.
Motivation is the reason or reasons that one behaves or acts in a particular way. I believe that the two-way theory depicts more of what individuals go through on a daily basis at their jobs. Keeping in mind that pay for me go could on both sides of the spectrum. I say that because one that loves their job(which is rare) and loves what they do are not necessarily worried about the money because of the love they have for what they do and their team. I do believe that the environment and morale around an individual at work can either motivate them or deflate them. Under the right circumstance you can build a team that is willing to go the extra mile, stay late, work from home on a project, happy to come into work. If they are being appreciated, motivated, listened to and truly feel apart of the team and not just a number.
This particular manager at my company has totally come in and changed in my eyes what a manager should look like and do. He comes in with a smile, energy and full of life. His concerns for his team shows and is transferred to others that are around him. He has the ability to effectively communicate with anyone on any level and make you come away with more knowledge and or better information and understanding. He actively listens and responds with we can make that happen in order for the you and the team to get done what is needed. He is always praising his team and giving them a chance to "be great." His saying is "If you do great, we all do great. You win, we all win." With this attitude his team goes above and beyond their performance level and coming into work long or not and handling business. They have praised him for his confidence in them and his ability to give them the work and let them handle it and get it done. Which in turn enables him to get more contracts, talk with other business owners and discussing up and coming opportunities to benefit the team and the company. His team works on the weekend just to show their appreciation for their boss. If that is not something to talk about I am not sure what is. This motivation would not only encourage me but I would be more happy and enthused about coming into work and working smart not hard but long to make sure that my boss is able to get things done as well. The way someone motivates you can do one of two things. It can send you over the edge or lift you above the bar and further. To have a manager that is also complaining, taking the stance of you never doing anything right, unloading more and more duties onto an already heavy load with no increase in pay and or acknowledgement of the job being done. Or not even asking if these extra duties would be obtainable if you take them on top of your heavy load is inconsiderate and creates a detrimental working environment and team. I would rather have an individual that sees and acknowledges my goals, the work and effort than not.
Hi Jazmine, this manager sounds phenomenal and anyone would be blessed to have this ideal manager. I believe this managers skill level and expertise allows his employees to feel at ease when arriving to their workplace on a daily basis. The skill set of his managers demeanor, has an infectious quality that makes him the ideal manager to work for and motivates the employees to always do their best when at work. I believe that is what motivates you as well as the others to strive for excellence and become motivators to others at work!
